WD01 - Envisioning the Future: Women in Design Keynote

Thursday, November 9 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM

Abstract Text:

As designers, we shape our built environment to benefit its inhabitants but as community demographics shift, so do the needs of the community. Careful consideration must be placed on projecting that vision to the future. What is the process and application of planning projects? How can we best give voice to all stakeholders? It is critical that we work creatively and collaboratively toward a common goal of providing spaces for people to not only live and work but to thrive in. Envisioning initiatives serve to guide the process and convey to decision makers the interests of the community. These can vary in scale from resident advocates working with businesses to lobby for street improvements to government-initiated citywide revitalization. What can we learn from these processes to best guide our own pursuits/designs? What does that future look like? How do you go from policy to a better built environment?
